Semester Progress Calculator
Measure term progress from a start date, end date and an as-of date using transparent calendar-day math.
Is your actual coursework keeping pace with the term?
Calendar progress and completed assignments are different measurements. Keep your semester dates above; enter the number of required tasks on your syllabus and how many are truly finished to compare their progress. Results stay in this browser.
Enter your syllabus task count and completed tasks to compare progress. Nothing is assumed about your work.
Worked checkpoint: half the term elapsed, 35% of tasks complete
Consider a 100-day semester with 20 comparable tasks. Halfway through, 10 tasks would be done under a perfectly uniform schedule, but only 7 have been completed: 35% of the assigned tasks. That is a 15 percentage-point gap relative to a linear time benchmark. The remaining 13 tasks over 50 calendar days would average 0.26 tasks/day—or about 1 task every 3.85 days—if the deadline really were the last day of the semester.
Important: this comparison does not assign equal effort to different tasks, account for vacations or assume all coursework is due at term end. Exams, lab sessions and intermediate deadlines can make a linear target misleading. Always check your syllabus and individual due dates. For actual work sessions and buffer days, use the Assignment Deadline Planner.
Compare elapsed time with completed coursework before changing your plan
Semester progress is elapsed calendar time, not assignment completion. Suppose a course is halfway through its date range but you have finished only 2 of 8 equally sized required tasks: that is 50% of calendar time versus 25% of tasks. The two figures answer different questions; harder projects, uneven task weights and instructor deadlines can make a simple task-count percentage equally misleading.
Use the date result as a checkpoint. Make a separate list of upcoming deadlines, remaining estimated work hours and protected weekly capacity, then use the Course Workload Calculator or Assignment Deadline Planner to test whether the remaining schedule is feasible. A week off, field placement or examination break can still count as elapsed calendar time even when it has no teaching sessions.

Formula
progress % = elapsed days ÷ total days × 100
Elapsed semester time does not count both date boundaries
- From 1 January to 11 January 2026 there are 10 elapsed calendar days.
- As of 6 January, 5 days have elapsed, so progress is 50%. The start boundary is 0% and the end boundary is 100%.
What the result tells you
The result measures calendar time that has passed, not credits completed, assignments submitted or teaching days attended.
Before you use the result
Study-days planning uses inclusive dates for a different question. Weekends and holidays remain part of elapsed semester time.

- Semester pacing
- Term countdowns
- Study-plan checkpoints
