Final Grade Calculator
Use this final grade calculator to find the grade needed on your final exam or project your final course grade from an expected exam score, with both workflows in the same calculator.
What grade do I need on my final?
Use Grade needed on the final when you know your current grade, target course grade and final-exam weight. Use Course grade after the final when you want to test an expected final-exam score and see the projected overall course grade.
Two common final-grade questions, one calculator
- Grade needed on final: “I have an 82%, the final is 30%, and I want an 85%. What do I need?”
- Projected final grade: “If I score 92% on that final, what will my course grade be?”
Both workflows use the same course-grade inputs, so you can switch between a required final score and a projected course grade without re-entering the scenario.
Formula
required final = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight
Example
With an 82% current grade and a 30% final, reaching 85% overall requires 92% on the final.
Useful for
- Final-exam planning
- Target-grade scenarios
- Course planning
Questions
What if the required score is above 100%?
The target is not reachable under the entered assumptions without extra credit or another grading change.
Can I test different targets?
Yes. Change the target grade and recalculate.
