How to calculate college GPA
College GPA is usually a credit-weighted average: each course contributes grade points multiplied by its credit hours. Lynara now lets you enter familiar letter grades on an editable 4.0 scale or switch to manual grade points when your college uses a different system.
Common college GPA scenarios
- Semester GPA: enter only the courses from the term you want to measure.
- Mixed credit hours: a 4-credit course affects GPA more than a 1-credit course.
- Different grading scales: edit A-, B+, and other grade-point values to match your institution before calculating.
Formula
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
Example
A 4.0 in 3 credits and 3.0 in 3 credits produces a 3.5 GPA.
