ORCID iD Checker
Check ORCID iD structure locally before using an identifier in notes, references or research metadata.
Privacy: bibliography and DOI utility inputs are processed locally in your browser and are not sent to a citation-processing backend.
Formula
ORCID uses the ISO 7064 MOD 11-2 check-digit algorithm
Normalize the identifier before checking the researcher
- Enter 0000-0002-1825-0097 with or without its orcid.org prefix.
- The MOD 11-2 check validates its final character. Open the normalized record separately and compare names, works and affiliations with the intended person.
What the result tells you
The local check tests identifier structure without authenticating the person who supplied it or retrieving current profile details.
Before you use the result
A valid iD can belong to someone else. Similar names and copied identifiers require an actual identity check.

Questions
Does this contact ORCID?
No. The check is local and validates only the identifier format and check digit.
Can the last ORCID character be X?
Yes. The MOD 11-2 algorithm can produce X as the final check character.
