Turn the same classroom planning into a seating draft
Use Classroom Seating Chart Generator when you need randomized row-and-column seat placement rather than groups or a student picker.
Use one local roster for random calling and balanced groups
Picker mode chooses from the roster in the browser and can exclude already-picked roster positions until the teacher resets the cycle. Group mode shuffles the same local roster and distributes names so group sizes differ by at most one.
Randomness can reduce manual selection bias, but it cannot account for accommodations, language needs, safety, behavior, ability mix or social dynamics. Treat both a picked name and generated groups as classroom logistics that still require teacher judgment.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
picker: select uniformly from currently eligible roster positions; groups: shuffle names locally, choose group count or preferred size, then distribute round-robin so group sizes differ by at most one
Example
Paste 25 names, pick students without repeats during discussion, then switch to groups of about 4 to create 7 randomized groups.
Useful for
- Random cold-calling without repeats
- Review games and discussion rounds
- Project and lab groups
- Partner and station rotations
Questions
Are student names uploaded?
No. Picking, no-repeat state, shuffling and grouping all happen in your browser.
Can I avoid picking the same student twice?
Yes. No-repeat mode removes already-picked roster positions until you reset the picker or edit the roster.
Are the groups educationally balanced?
Only by size. Random assignment does not balance ability, support needs, behavior or other teacher-selected factors.
