Bibliography Alphabetizer
Sort an author-date bibliography without reformatting citation punctuation, capitalization or source details.
Privacy: bibliography and DOI utility inputs are processed locally in your browser and are not sent to a citation-processing backend.
Formula
sorted bibliography = reference lines ordered by normalized text after ignoring common leading reference numbers
Sorting entries does not renumber the citations in an essay
- Paste one complete reference per line, such as entries beginning Smith, Adams and Brown.
- The output orders Adams, Brown, Smith while retaining each original reference line. A retained [8] label does not become [1] because the line moves.
What the result tells you
This is a sorting aid after you have checked that each line represents a complete reference.
Before you use the result
Numbered systems can require order of first appearance. The tool does not update in-text citations or apply every style’s same-author ordering conventions.
Useful for
- Sorting APA or MLA reference lists
- Alphabetizing a works-cited draft
- Reordering bibliography lines without rewriting them
Questions
Will Lynara change citation formatting?
No. It changes line order only.
Should IEEE references be alphabetized?
Usually numbered systems follow citation order rather than alphabetical order. Follow the style rules required for your work.
