Turn the rubric plan into question or task points
Use Question Point Calculator when the next step is allocating a fixed total number of points across assessment items.
Normalize each rubric criterion before combining its weight
Rubric criteria can use different point scales, so raw points should not be combined as if every criterion had the same maximum. Lynara first converts each criterion to a percentage, then applies the entered weight and normalizes by total weight.
The result now shows each criterion’s normalized contribution plus the strongest and weakest criterion by percentage. Those labels describe the entered scores only; they do not judge whether the rubric criteria or weights are educationally appropriate.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
overall rubric % = Σ((criterion score ÷ criterion max) × criterion weight) ÷ Σ(weights) × 100
Example
A 90% criterion weighted 50 and an 80% criterion weighted 50 produce an 85% overall rubric score.
Useful for
- Essay rubric scoring
- Project rubric totals
- Weighted assessment criteria
Questions
Do rubric weights have to total 100?
No. Lynara normalizes the entered weights by their total, while still showing the total weight so you can spot an input mistake.
Can criteria use different maximum points?
Yes. Each criterion score is first converted to a proportion of its own maximum before the criterion weight is applied.
