Pomodoro Study Calculator

Plan a bounded study session by choosing focus length, short-break length, cycle count and an optional final long break.

Calculate

Total session time vs focused time, with common variants

Worked example: four 25-minute focus blocks with 5-minute short breaks and a 15-minute final break give 100 minutes of focus, 15 minutes of short breaks and 15 minutes of long break: 130 minutes in total.

Three 50-minute blocks with 10-minute breaks and no final long break total 170 minutes. Working backward from three available hours with 25/5 cycles, six focus blocks plus five short breaks take 175 minutes and fit.

Block length is a planning choice. Shorter blocks can suit tasks that benefit from frequent resets, while longer blocks can reduce interruption for writing or problem sets. Adjust the settings to the task rather than treating one pattern as universally optimal.

The 25/5 pattern is associated with Francesco Cirillo’s Pomodoro Technique. It is a time-structuring method, not a claim that one timing is best for every learner or task.

Formula

session time = cycles × focus minutes + (cycles − 1) × short-break minutes + optional final long break

Example

Four 25-minute focus blocks with three 5-minute short breaks and a 15-minute final break totals 130 minutes.

Questions

Does the final long break count in the total?

Yes when you enter a long-break value above zero. Set it to 0 if you only want the active study block and between-cycle short breaks.

Can I use 50-minute focus blocks instead of 25?

Yes. The focus length is editable so the tool can model other study-cycle patterns.
