Reading Time Calculator
Paste text and choose a reading speed to estimate minutes and seconds from the deterministic word count, with no AI inference or upload required.
Make the estimate more personal
Use the Reading Speed Calculator to measure your own words-per-minute pace, then use that speed for future reading-time estimates.
Reading speed is an editable planning assumption
Words per minute varies with text difficulty, familiarity, purpose and the reader. A technical chapter read for comprehension can take much longer than familiar prose read for scanning, so the starting speed should not be treated as a personal benchmark or guarantee.
Use the word count and an editable speed to compare scenarios. For a presentation or study plan, add time for pauses, note-taking, examples or discussion separately because those activities are not captured by the basic words-per-minute formula.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
reading time in minutes = word count ÷ words per minute
Example
400 words at 200 words per minute is about 2 minutes.
Useful for
- Article reading estimates
- Presentation planning
- Study-session planning
