Points Needed to Reach a Target Grade
Use current earned points, points possible so far and remaining available points to see whether a target course percentage is still reachable.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
required future points = target % × (current possible + remaining possible) − current earned
Use the final possible-point total rather than the graded total alone
- With 360 earned out of 450 possible and 100 points remaining, the final denominator will be 550.
- An 80% final target needs 440 earned points, so another 80 points are required from the remaining work.
What the result tells you
A current 80% running grade does not secure an 80% final result if the remaining work is missed.
Before you use the result
This is a pure points-based model. Weighted categories, dropped assignments and bonuses can require a different denominator or calculation.
Useful for
- Points-based course planning
- Pass-target scenarios
- Remaining coursework planning
Questions
What if my course uses weighted categories?
Use Weighted Grade Calculator instead; raw-point math can be wrong when categories have separate weights.
What if the required points exceed the remaining points?
The target is not reachable under the entered raw-point assumptions without extra credit or another grading change.
