Flashcard Study Time Calculator
Plan a flashcard session before starting by making card pace, repetition count and breaks explicit.
Can you finish your planned flashcard rounds today?
Use the card count, average seconds per card, rounds and breaks you already entered above. Add the focused time you really have. This compares the plan with your available time and reports how many complete review rounds fit without pretending to schedule partial rounds.
Change your focus budget to compare it with your planned rounds.
Worked example: 100 cards × 12 seconds each × 2 rounds = 40 focus minutes. A 5-minute break between rounds makes 45 minutes total. In a 30-minute window, only one complete 20-minute round fits; the second round is not automatically completed. Try another session, a smaller deck or a longer time block instead of rushing recall.
Time predictions are not learning outcomes. Hard cards and new concepts may require longer than your average; skipping practice or shortening every answer to meet a timer may reduce learning. The Pomodoro Study Calculator helps create focus/break intervals, while the Study Time Calculator works backwards from a larger study workload.

Formula
focus time = cards × seconds per card × rounds; total session = focus time + breaks between rounds
Example
100 cards at 12 seconds each for 2 rounds equals 40 focused minutes; a 5-minute break between rounds makes 45 minutes total.
Useful for
- Flashcard review planning
- Vocabulary study timing
- Estimating active-recall session length
Questions
Should every card use the same seconds-per-card value?
No. Use a realistic average based on your deck and review style.
Does this replace spaced-repetition scheduling?
No. It estimates session duration; it does not decide when each card should be reviewed.
