Extra Credit Grade Calculator
Model one common extra-credit rule explicitly instead of assuming every course handles bonus work the same way.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
new percentage = (points earned + extra-credit points) ÷ points possible × 100
Bonus points and a normal extra assignment change different denominators
- 450 points out of 500 is 90%. Adding 15 true bonus points without increasing possible points produces 465 ÷ 500 = 93%.
- A regular 15-point assignment receiving full marks instead changes both totals: 465 ÷ 515 = 90.29%.
What the result tells you
The bonus calculation keeps possible points fixed. That is why it can have a larger effect than another ordinary assignment.
Before you use the result
Some courses cap extra credit, apply it to one category or add percentage points directly. Choose the model that matches the instructor’s written rule.
Useful for
- Bonus-point grade impact
- Points-based extra credit
- Comparing optional extra-credit amounts
Questions
Can the result exceed 100%?
Yes under this specific points-added rule. Whether a course caps the grade at 100% depends on its policy.
What if extra credit is its own weighted category?
Use the Weighted Grade Calculator or your course-specific rule instead; this page intentionally models only the points-added method.
