Exam Time Per Question Calculator
Plan exam pacing from total test time, question count and a review buffer you want to keep at the end.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
time per question = (total exam minutes − review minutes) ÷ question count
Reserve review time before dividing the working time
- A 60-minute exam with 30 questions and 5 minutes reserved for review leaves 55 working minutes.
- 55 ÷ 30 gives 1 minute 50 seconds per question. Ten equally paced questions would use about 18 minutes 20 seconds.
What the result tells you
Use the average as a practice checkpoint to notice when one early question is consuming time intended for later work.
Before you use the result
Different marks and question types may require unequal time. Section limits and approved accommodations take priority over an overall average.
Useful for
- Exam pacing
- Practice-test timing
- Reserving end-of-test review time
Questions
Can I reserve time for review?
Yes. Reserved review minutes are removed before the average question time is calculated.
Should every question get the same time?
No. The calculator gives an average pace; harder or higher-value questions may need more time.
