Drop Lowest Grade Calculator
See how an equal-weight assignment or quiz average changes when a syllabus drops the lowest scores.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
adjusted average = sum of remaining equal-weight scores ÷ number of remaining scores after the lowest N are removed
Remove the dropped score from both the sum and the count
- Four equal-weight scores of 70, 80, 90 and 100 total 340 and average 85%.
- Removing the 70 leaves 270 across 3 scores, so the new average is 90%. Dividing by the old count of 4 would incorrectly give 67.5%.
What the result tells you
The tool models removal from an equal-weight set rather than a bonus added to the original mean.
Before you use the result
Different point totals, category weights and rules excluding mandatory assessments need the actual course policy instead of this equal-weight model.
Useful for
- Dropping the lowest quiz
- Equal-weight homework averages
- Comparing before-and-after averages
Questions
Can I drop more than one score?
Yes, as long as at least one score remains after the selected number of lowest scores is removed.
Can I use assignments with different point values?
Not reliably. This tool treats each entered score percentage as equal weight.
