Class Rank Percentile Calculator

Translate an exact class rank into comparable class-standing percentages without pretending every school reports percentile the same way.

Calculate

Class rank, top percentage and percentile are related but not interchangeable

Rank 1 is the strongest ordinal position, so a lower rank number produces a smaller top-percentage value. Percentile usually moves the other direction because it describes how much of the class falls below a position.

Schools do not all publish percentile with the same convention or tie policy. Lynara therefore shows both a strict-below and an inclusive convention instead of hiding that methodological difference behind one number.

Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.

Formula

top % = rank ÷ class size × 100; strict percentile = students below ÷ class size × 100; inclusive percentile = (students below + 1) ÷ class size × 100

Example

Rank 15 in a class of 120 is top 12.5%; 105 students are below that rank, giving 87.5% strict-below percentile or 88.33% inclusive percentile.

Questions

Why does Lynara show two percentile values?

One convention counts only students ranked below you; another also includes your own position. Schools and calculators can report either convention.

Does a smaller rank number mean a better standing?

Yes. Rank 1 is the highest rank. The top-percent result gets smaller as your standing improves.
