Absence Limit Calculator
Translate an attendance requirement into an explicit maximum absence count for a known number of scheduled class meetings.
Privacy: calculator inputs are processed in your browser; Lynara does not need to upload these values to calculate the result.
Formula
minimum attended meetings = ceil(total meetings × minimum attendance %); maximum absences = total meetings − minimum attended meetings
Why the final permitted absence requires whole-number rounding
- For 31 counted meetings and an 80% minimum, 31 × 0.80 = 24.8 meetings must be attended.
- Round required attendance up to 25 whole meetings: at most 6 absences remain. Seven absences leave 24 ÷ 31 = 77.42% attendance.
What the result tells you
Rounding an absence allowance upward would tell this student that seven absences are acceptable when they do not meet the numerical threshold.
Before you use the result
Confirm how excused absences, partial days and mandatory laboratory sessions count. The arithmetic does not grant permission to miss a class.
Useful for
- Attendance policy planning
- Checking remaining absences
- Converting an attendance percentage to a meeting count
Questions
Why does Lynara round required attendance up?
Because you cannot attend a fraction of a class meeting. Meeting the percentage threshold can require the next whole attended meeting.
What if I am already over the maximum absences?
The result will show that the entered absence count exceeds the arithmetic threshold; only your institution can determine the actual consequence.
