How Weighted Grades Work
Weighted grading assigns different importance to categories or assessments. The safest calculation uses each score multiplied by its weight and divides by total entered weight.
Method
- List each category score.
- Enter the matching category weight.
- Multiply each score by its weight.
- Add weighted values and divide by total weight.
Worked example
Homework 90 at weight 40 contributes 3,600 weighted points.
Exams 80 at weight 60 contributes 4,800; 8,400 divided by 100 = 84%.
Notes
- Weights do not need to total exactly 100 in Lynara.
- Check whether your gradebook excludes ungraded categories.
- Rounding rules can differ.
