Make each connection say something useful

A concept map is more informative when a link expresses a relationship such as “causes,” “requires,” “is part of” or “contrasts with.” Adding related terms without explaining the connection can create a visually busy diagram that does little to test understanding.

Start with the central concept and a small number of major branches. Add detail after the hierarchy is clear, then use the finished map for retrieval practice by hiding one branch and reconstructing it from memory.

Make each relationship explainable before enlarging the diagram

  1. Choose a central concept and three related ideas from the material.
  2. State what each link means, such as causes, requires or contrasts with. Check those relationships against the source and explain one without rereading the notes.

What the result tells you

A visible connection is an organizing decision by the user. The layout cannot establish that the relationship is correct.

Before you use the result

Keep uncertainty and conflicting evidence visible. This local diagram tool does not verify sources or infer every relationship for you.

Questions

Does the basic map require AI?

No. The core visual map works entirely in the browser.

Can AI suggest concepts later?

The shared AI backend is designed so optional suggestions can be added without creating a second URL.
